Privacy Policy for ClearDues
Effective Date: January 25, 2026
Last Updated: January 25, 2026
Our Philosophy
ClearDues was built on a simple principle: your financial data belongs to you, and only
you.
In a world where every finance app demands access to your bank accounts and sends your data to remote
servers, we took a different path. ClearDues operates entirely on your device, with zero servers, zero
tracking, and zero data collection.
This isn't just marketing—it's how the app is fundamentally designed.
The Short Version
- ✅ All data stays on your device (stored locally with SwiftData)
- ✅ No servers - We don't operate any backend infrastructure
- ✅ No tracking - No analytics, no telemetry, no usage data collection
- ✅ No account required - No email, no password, no login
- ✅ No third-party services - No advertising networks, no data brokers
- ✅ Optional iCloud - If you enable sync, it uses your private iCloud
(end-to-end encrypted)
We literally cannot access your data, even if we wanted to.
Information We Collect
None.
ClearDues does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers.
Information You Store Locally
When you use ClearDues, the following data is stored exclusively on your device:
Subscription Data
- Subscription names, amounts, and renewal dates
- Payment method information (card names and colors you assign)
- Trial period information
- Payment history (when you mark subscriptions as paid)
User Preferences
- Your selected currency
- App theme preferences (Light/Dark mode)
- Notification settings
- Face ID/Touch ID security preferences
- Onboarding completion status
Location: All of this data is stored locally on your iPhone/iPad using Apple's SwiftData
framework. It never leaves your device unless you explicitly enable iCloud sync (see below).
How We Use Your Data
We don't.
Because your data never reaches us, we have no ability to use, analyze, or access it.
Your data is used exclusively by the app on your device to:
- Display your subscriptions and spending reports
- Send you renewal reminders (if you enable notifications)
- Sync your data across your devices (if you enable iCloud)
- Populate widgets and Live Activities
- Respond to Siri commands
Optional Features & Permissions
ClearDues requests the following permissions only when you use specific features. All
are optional.
Camera (Bill Scanner)
- Purpose: To scan receipts and automatically extract subscription details
- How it works: Uses Apple's Vision framework to perform OCR (text recognition)
entirely on-device
- Data handling: Images are processed locally and never saved or transmitted
- Permission: Only requested when you tap the "Scan Bill" button
Calendar
- Purpose: To display your upcoming subscription renewals in Apple Calendar
- How it works: Creates local calendar events on your device
- Data handling: Events are stored in your Apple Calendar app, synced via your iCloud
if enabled
- Permission: Only requested when you enable calendar sync in Settings
Notifications
- Purpose: To remind you before subscriptions renew
- How it works: Local notifications scheduled by iOS
- Data handling: Notification content is generated locally, not sent through external
servers
- Permission: Only requested during onboarding (you can skip)
Face ID / Touch ID
- Purpose: To protect your financial data with biometric authentication
- How it works: Uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework
- Data handling: Biometric data never leaves your device's Secure Enclave
- Permission: Only requested when you enable "Require Face ID" in Settings
Siri & Shortcuts
- Purpose: To let you check subscriptions and mark payments using voice commands
- How it works: App Intents processed locally by iOS
- Data handling: Voice data processed by Apple's Siri (see Apple's Privacy Policy),
but subscription data stays local
- Permission: Only requested when you use Siri features
iCloud Sync (Optional)
- Purpose: To sync your subscriptions across your iPhone, iPad, and Mac
- How it works: Uses your private iCloud account with CloudKit
- Data handling: Data is end-to-end encrypted and stored in your personal iCloud
storage
- Important: Even with iCloud enabled, we cannot access your data—it
belongs to your Apple account
- Permission: Only enabled if you add the iCloud capability and sign in with your
Apple ID
Third-Party Services
We use none.
ClearDues does not integrate with:
- ❌ Analytics services (Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
- ❌ Crash reporting tools
- ❌ Advertising networks
- ❌ Social media platforms
- ❌ Payment processors (we don't handle payments)
- ❌ Cloud storage providers (except your optional private iCloud)
Currency Exchange Rates
ClearDues fetches live currency exchange rates from a public API to display your spending in different
currencies. This request:
- Contains no personal information
- Contains no identifiers
- Is a standard HTTPS request to a public data source
- Cannot be linked to you or your subscriptions
Data Sharing
We share nothing, because we have nothing to share.
Since your data never reaches our servers, there is no data for us to:
- Sell to advertisers
- Share with data brokers
- Provide to analytics companies
- Hand over to third parties
The only entity that can access your subscription data is you, on your
device.
Data Security
Local Storage
- All data is stored using Apple's SwiftData framework with iOS's built-in encryption
- If you enable Face ID protection, access is additionally gated by biometric authentication
- App content is automatically hidden in the iOS App Switcher to prevent shoulder-surfing
Network Security
- The only network requests ClearDues makes are for currency exchange rates
- All requests use HTTPS (TLS 1.3) encryption
- No authentication tokens, API keys, or personal identifiers are transmitted
iCloud (If Enabled)
- Data synced via iCloud uses Apple's end-to-end encryption
- Encryption keys are derived from your device passcode and Apple ID
- We do not have access to your iCloud data
Children's Privacy
ClearDues is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from
children.
However, because ClearDues operates entirely on-device with no data collection, there is no risk of
children's data being collected or transmitted, even if they use the app.
Age Rating: 4+ (suitable for all ages, per Apple's rating system)
Your Rights
Access Your Data
Your data is already accessible to you—it's stored locally on your device in the ClearDues app.

- Delete individual subscriptions by swiping left in the app
- Delete all data by uninstalling ClearDues from your device

Opt-Out of Data Collection
There is nothing to opt-out of—we don't collect data in the first place.
⚠️ Important Notice About Future Changes
Current Status: ClearDues is currently free with zero data collection, zero ads, and
zero tracking as described in this policy.
Future Possibility: If ClearDues is sold or ownership is transferred to another
party, this privacy policy and the app's data practices may change. Any new owner may implement
different data collection practices, analytics, advertising, or monetization strategies.
Your Protection: We commit to notifying all users via an in-app message before any
such transfer occurs, and the new owner will be required to publish an updated privacy policy
reflecting any changes to data practices.
Changes to This Policy
If we make changes to this privacy policy, we will:
- Update the "Last Updated" date at the top
- Publish the new version at https://cleardues.pbod.dev/privacy.html
- Notify users via an in-app message (for significant changes)
Because we don't collect email addresses, we cannot send email notifications about policy changes.
International Users
ClearDues is available worldwide. Since all data is stored locally on your device:
- GDPR (Europe): Fully compliant—your data never leaves your device
- CCPA (California): Fully compliant—we don't sell personal information because we
don't collect it
- France: No ANSSI encryption approval needed—uses only standard Apple encryption
Legal Basis for Data Processing (GDPR)
Under GDPR, the legal basis for processing your data is:
- Contract Performance: To provide you with subscription tracking functionality
- Legitimate Interest: To improve app performance (all processing happens locally)
- Consent: For optional features like notifications, calendar sync, and Face ID
Because all processing happens on your device, you maintain full control and ownership of your data at
all times.

designed to obscure the truth.
